Napa Valley Opera House Announces 2007 Fall Season
Napa, CA – The Napa Valley Opera House recently announced its 2007 Fall Seasonfeaturing 23 diverse performances by artists ranging from Judy Collins to Richie Havens. Rita Moreno opens the 2007 Fall Season with two performances of her highly acclaimed cabaret show from New York’s Café Carlyle, “Little Tributes.” According to Opera House Executive Director Evy Warshawski, "We are going to have so much fun during the Fall Season ... and it is one that I am very excited about! We have opportunities to bring back to Napa some popular favorites, as well introducing audiences to new work - - all in the name of incredible artistry!
The line-up includes five performance series and two dynamic evenings of dance. The first dance performance brings the talents of Spain’sNoche Flamencato Napa in a thrilling production of authentic flamenco. The second,American Tap Masterpieces “The Hollywood Journey: Tap Dance, Music and Film” melds classic dances from the big screen, shifting to a fresh look at contemporary tap masters.
The Classy Classics Series partners Rita Moreno’s performances with Judy Collins "Sings Lennon & McCartney" and a jazzy evening of Sinatra and American Songbook tunes performed by Steve Tyrell. Also in the line-up isSolid Blues featuring performances by Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite, North Mississippi Allstars and Joe Krown.
The World Of Music Series features five distinct performances from around the Globe beginning with singer, dancer and percussionist Dobet Gnahoré from the Ivory Coast. San Jose Taiko fuses Japanese, Latin, Brazilian and African rhythms into their performance, followed by Brazilian singer/songwriter CéUpronounced (“Sayou”). TheDjango Reinhardt Festival Band brings to life the music of legendary French gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and Israel’s most accomplished singer, Chava Alberstein, performs.
The Comic Genius Seriesconsists of four, seriously funny events. First up is aFinal Round of the 32nd Annual San Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy Competition. Stand-up comediansWill Durst and Robert Dubac pair-up in the humor and satire filled “The Barbarians Of Truth,” followed by Robert Dubac in his hilarious one-man show “THE MALE INTELLECT: THE 2ND COMING! “ The series wraps up with four past Comedy Competition luminaries and hilarious young prospects performing in the Best Of The San Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy Competition.
Five very distinctive performances make up the Eclectic Series which begins with Sing-Along Grease, the hip-swiveling 1978 musical comedy about the trials and tribulations of high school students growing up in the 1950s. TheCarolina Chocolate Dropsbring the traditional music of the foothills and mountains of North and South Carolina to the Opera House. Ukulele virtuosoJake Shimabukuro defies genres, performing jazz, blues, funk, classical, bluegrass, folk and rock. The very first artist on stage at Woodstock,Richie Havenspresents his soulful singing style one night only. Rounding out the Eclectic Series is popular pianist-band leaderLarry Vuckovich, performing a wide-ranging repertoire that includes down-home blues, ragtime/stride, swing/bebop, Afro-Cuban and other world music.
The Young At Heart Seriesis for kids of all ages. TheShangri-La Chinese Acrobatspresent their multi-faceted, multi-cultural production featuring dazzling acrobatic displays, feats of daring and balance, Kung Fu and a touch of Chinese comedy. Many of Dr. Seuss’ best-loved stories come to life in“Seussical”performed by TheatreworksUSA. Television personality and former zookeeperJungle Jack Hanna brings his favorite furry, feathered and reptilian friends to the Opera House during two performances.

More than 30 years in the making, The Napa Valley Opera House, a national historic landmark, restored the Margrit Biever Mondavi Theatre in June 2003, a second-floor theatre that was originally constructed in 1879. The NVOH 2007 Fall Season marks the fifth year of programming in the intimate 500-seat theatre, the “Jewel of Napa Valley” located in the heart of downtown Napa. Patrons experience an eclectic array of performing arts including theatre, dance, comedy, jazz, blues, world music, and family programming in a world class setting.
