TORMÉ SINGS TORMÉ, A Tribute To The Life And Music Of Mel Tormé

Napa, CA – Steve March Tormé, the son of legendary jazz singer Mel Tormé, stars in A Big Band Tribute to the Life and Music of Mel Tormé at the Napa Valley Opera House on Thursday, January 11 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 and $35.

The performance will feature Steve March Tormé singing some of his father’s best known songs, including the hits “Lulu’s Back In Town,” “The Christmas Song” and ”Mountain Greenery.” The songs will be interspersed with family photos and some never before seen Tormé video clips. Steve will be accompanied by a big band conducted by Steve Rawlins, performing many original musical arrangements by Marty Paich and by the “Velvet Fog” himself.

With his natural talent and famous fathers as role models (actor Hal March is Steve’s Stepfather), Tormé knew at the age of 12, that he wanted to be a singer/performer. He started singing professionally at the age of 13, forming the first of many pop-rock bands as a freshman in high school. He recorded his first solo album “Lucky,” for United Artists Records and a few years later, was the featured male singer for the Planet Records vocal group Full Swing. Steve has hosted and/or appeared in over 25 television shows, including three years as the featured vocalist on ABC TV’s “The New $100,000 Name That Tune.”

Steve’s affinity for his father’s music is evident on his 1999 release “Swingin’ at the Blue Moon Bar & Grille,” where he duets with Mel on “Straighten Up and Fly Right.” That disc also features a number of songs written by Steve (composing being another Tormé trait. And Steven’s most recent CD, “The Essence of Love” includes such classic standards as “Stardust,” Blue Skies” and “Just One Of Those Things.”
