Johnny Cash's Back Up Band The Tennessee Three Performs

Napa, CA– The Tennessee Three, back up band for the legendary Johnny Cash, perform the unique sound that powered nearly every Cash stage show and recording since 1960 at the Napa Valley Opera House on Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m. Guitarist/vocalist Bob Wootton and drummer WS Holland are not a “tribute act” or “cover band,” but are the men who toured and recorded with Cash for over 40 years, providing a truly original and instantly identifiable sound. Cited as an inspiration by hundreds of contemporary musicians in virtually every genre ranging from country, rock, punk, rockabilly, pop and more, the celebrated members of TN3 are held in the highest regard by fans and peers alike. Wootton and Holland will perform with their band consisting of Vicky Wootton on vocals and rhythm guitar, Scarlett Wootton on vocals and Lisa Horngren, vocals and upright bass. Tickets are $35 and $30.

From his early stardom until his last years as a performer, Johnny Cash chose only to work with one band and depended upon them to provide him with the unique sound that would come to be recognized by millions of fans the world over as “The Johnny Cash Sound.” Bob Wootton instituted the unique “boom-chicka-boom” guitar that classifies most of Cash’s songs, while WS Holland holds his own place in music history as the first rock ‘n’ roll drummer. The music of The Tennessee Three is as important to the sound and success of Johnny Cash has his own voice.

With the resurgence of interest in the life and music of the late Johnny Cash, due in part to the success of the biographical film “Walk the Line,” the Broadway play “Ring of Fire” and countless re-releases of audio and video recordings from the Man in Black, a new and younger audience has joined the already dedicated fans of the TN3’s classic body of work. The boys show no signs of letting up and have returned to the stages of the world. In 2006 the band toured Ireland, Canada and the U.S., including a televised appearance on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live Academy Awards Night Special.” They released a new album titled “The Sound Must Go On,” featuring the hit “You Walked Tall,” which is receiving airplay worldwide and consistently ranks within the top-five songs of many stations.
